What is Molarity?
Molarity is the amount of solute, measured in moles, present in one liter of solution. It is commonly expressed as mol/L or M.
Molarity Equation
M = n / V
where M is molarity, n is moles of solute, and V is solution volume in liters.
How to Calculate Molarity
- Enter the amount of solute.
- Enter the molar mass in g/mol.
- Enter the final solution volume.
- Click Calculate Molarity.
- The calculator converts the units and displays the result.
Example Calculation
Example: Calculate the molarity of a solution
containing 5.844 g of NaCl in 500 mL of solution.
NaCl molar mass = 58.44 g/mol
Volume = 500 mL = 0.5 L
Moles = 5.844 ÷ 58.44 = 0.100 mol
Molarity = 0.100 ÷ 0.5
Result = 0.200 M
NaCl molar mass = 58.44 g/mol
Volume = 500 mL = 0.5 L
Moles = 5.844 ÷ 58.44 = 0.100 mol
Molarity = 0.100 ÷ 0.5
Result = 0.200 M
Unit Conversions
- 1 L = 1000 mL
- 1 mL = 0.001 L
- 1 g = 1000 mg
- 1 mg = 1000 µg
- 1 M = 1000 mM
- 1 M = 1,000,000 µM
